Fancy pants

Fancy pants, aka The Elf on the Shelf.  An American custom to get children to behave over the festive season.  How it works, well the Elf usually comes at Thanksgiving and hangs around till Christmas Eve, when he returns to the North Pole with Santa. 
 
The Elf is around to watch the household during the day and once everyone goes to bed the elf flies back to the North Pole to report back to Santa about what activities, good and bad, took place throughout the day. Before the family wakes up each night, the scout elf flies back and hides. By hiding in a new spot each morning around the house, a daily game of hide and seek.
 
The elf gets his magic by being named.  Our Elf has been baptised Fancy Pants

Every morning, we here the footsteps running around until the "MOM, come look" or "MOM guess where fancy pants is.."  It has been kinds fine watching Jaime, although I'm not quite sold on the "making kids behave" bit, but fun nonetheless!
