October school newsletter. Its cool to see what they been up to since when ever I ask Jaime I get the "I don't know" or " I forgot" or "I had recess"
Literacy- Letters t, f, h, n, m, and a have been introduced. We have been working on letter recognition, letter sounds, and letter formation of these four letters. We are starting to learn to write words and phrases. We
now know that letters make sounds and sounds put together make words.
We are also working on writing our names beginning with an upper case letter
and all the rest lower case. We know what an author and illustrator do. Our
author for September was Mercer Mayer and our new author for October is
Norman Bridwell. Through phonemic awareness, we are working on sound
discrimination and rhyming. Popcorn words have been introduced. The
children know words that pop up everywhere are called Popcorn Words in
Kindergarten Our latest popcorn words are: is, the, a, and. me, and my. A
bag of popcorn words will be coming home very soon. With them will be a
list of ideas you can use to help reinforce the reading and writing of these
words at home.
Math- In math we continue to work on graphing skills, number recognition,
number quantity, and number order 1-10. We our continuing our unit onpatterns. We built, recognized and continued many different types of
patterns. Zero the Hero came to visit us and will continue to come every ten
days. Ask your child who Zero the Hero is and why is he important. He is
also helping us learn how to count by tens. We now know how to count by ten
to 30. In November , we will be celebrating our 50th day of school together.
We will have a 50s Day. Please have your child dress up for a “50s Hop”.
Poodle skirts and rolled up jeans with slicked back hair are welcomed. Look
for the date on the November Calendar.
Science- In Science , we have just begun our fall unit. We are learning and
observing the changes that come with the season of fall. We have observedour Kindergarten tree and recorded what we saw in our Tree Journal. The
children have also learned about the life cycle of a frog and an apple tree.
Social Studies- In Social Studies, we have been learning about our families,
friends, and neighborhoods. We have drawn our families and created ourhouse. We were explorers and explored our
neighborhood around our school. We created a large map of what we saw.
Using Mr. Rogers Neighborhood website, we drew a neighborhood that
represented the ones we live in.. We are also learning our polite words,
please, thank you, your welcome, yes please, no thank you and excuse me. We
are expecting the children to use these words automatically without prompts
from an adult.
Songs and Finger Plays-The children have learned the following songs and
finger plays. Have them sing them to you. They are; Rules Rap, There Wasa Little Turtle, Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, and Purple songs,
Five Little Gingerbread Men, Five Green and Speckled Frogs, Teddy Bear,
Teddy Bear Turn Around, Hello Neighbor, Hands are For Hugging, Couch
Potato Pokey, This Land Is
Your Land, Button Factory, Al the Alligator,
and Flag of America. As you can see we have had a busy month. We have
been having fun, and working hard.
